*lol* Forgive me for the lame title.....as soon I get done with this I need to get my ass up and go get some food.....my blood sugar gauge is almost at zero and I'm all @_@ atm (so forgive me if any of this sounds choppy or whatever). Despite that I figured I would post something since I caught a bit of the writing bug and haven't updated in a little while.
*lol* I'm soo hyped right now I'm not sure where to begin.
I guess I'll start off with that I FINALLY found a couple of temp jobs to tide me over until Andrew and I head off to basic. Can't tell you guys how big of a relief that is. I no longer have to feel like this:
Hate to sound lazy or whatever by this (because honest to goodness I'm not), but I hate job searching and going to interviews.....it's all for the birds I dare say. I'm really excited to see what kind of assignments I'll get. If you've known me for any extent of time you'll know I don't like to stay in any one spot for any prolonged period of time and that I enjoy doing new and different things on a regular basis.....so ya I think temping and the military will be a good fit *lol*.
Speaking of the military I have some exciting news (or at least I think it is) regarding it/that as well. Andrew and I payed our good ol' buddy (our recruiter really) Sgt.Bradshaw a visit on Tuesday to talk to him about some of our jobs choices we picked out at M.E.P.S (was regretting a couple of the ones I picked out) as well as a few other things. Thank you God for Bradshaw (and I sincerely mean that) he has really and truly bent over backwards to make all of this possible. Come to find out he sent an email to one of the higher ups (I'm assuming) to ensure that we get to go to basic together (soooo thankful and excited for that) and with that being the case our job lists will be disregarded and that we'll pick our jobs out at basic. You may be wondering what this means or how or in what way is this good, allow me to explain. After you take the ASVAB at M.E.P.S you meet up with a job counselor and based upon what scores you made if the different areas (general, admin, electrical, and mechanical) you'll be given a list of jobs you qualify for and you make your list of 7/8 jobs based on that. With that being said it's kind of a luck of the draw as to which job you'll get and you wont find out what job your assigned to until the last week of BMT. Just in case if none of the jobs you pick are available you get to pick a guaranteed area of your choice (in both Andrew and I's case we picked general), if this occurs you'll pick your job out at basic during the third week of training. You also have a third choice of just cutting to the chase and just picking out your job at basic in the guaranteed area you chose. To me this seems like the best route, there's no guess work involved. Like I said before during your third week of training you meet up with a job counselor, take a look at the list of jobs you qualify for, pick which one you want, and BAM you're done, that's the job you're getting (no guessing about it.) So ya we'll basically be doing the third choice. I'm really hoping and praying that my security clearance stuff will turn out alright (to those of you who I put down as references expect to be visited by a g-man/men here sometime soon for an interview......kinda nervous about the one they'll do with me too *lol*) and I'll get the top security clearance I'll need in order to do signals intelligence (which sounds like a totally bad ass job and I'll get to go to two of my favorite place for tech school.....Arizona and Florida ^^). Some other other cool stuff I found out about during our visit was:
- We'll FINALLY be heading out to basic in October (maybe November at the latest)
- We both qualify to get LASIK *cries for joy* (been wanting to get that done for what seems like forever now)
- After a year of service we'll get assistance/money to go towards paying off our current student loans (WOOT!)
- After we get done at basic we'll get to come home (to Dallas), we get to help out Bradshaw out at the recruiting office and go talk at different schools about the Air Force (which I think will be fun ^^), and we also get to earn some extra cash for helping other Airmen move their stuff around.
- We'll be getting an insane amount of dough (since we're married military) for our base pay, flight pay (that's if we travel around in aircraft),housing, and food.
I'm ecstatic to say the least. I can't wait to finally get in and be an active member =)Last but not least I'm pretty stoked about coming up to OK tomorrow to see my fam and friends. My mom is going on a trip with my Aunt Kathy to Puerto Rico and while she's gone she's needing me took look after my g-ma,who's not in the greatest health (despite her multiple conditions she sure knows how to keep a person on their toes though XD).
Can't wait to go bowl and play some billiards at Tinker as well as maybe go hang out downtown and go to the Zoo (really been wanting to do go do some life drawings,so be looking out for some in the next week or so.)
Also, in attempt to build up my portfolio during my down time I plan on starting doing some digital paintings as well playing around with Blender 3D.
Depending on how well I do I might share them on here or maybe I'll be brave and sign up for a DeviantArt account.~Adiós~
I think I shall take a break from what seems to be a futile attempt at changing the favicon (.ico file) for my blog and write a more thorough update like I said I would in yesterdays post. Before I delve in I would like to take a trip on the more random and humorous side and share some of my findings while browsing around the interwebs. Last night before I headed to the slumber chamber I was piddling around on Kotaku.com and came across an article about 45 various artistic interpretations on Mario and Luigi from the Super Mario Bros. franchise (you can check that out here).
While I was looking around at the different pieces one in particular stuck out to me (I hope to God I'll be able to digitally paint as good as this guy one day) and one artistic finding lead to another. Here's the one that originally caught my eye (Credit to artist Gary Storkamp):
I looked around some more on this guys Deviant Art gallery and found another piece of work that at first didn't really know how to respond to but then I LMAO and it began to grow on me. On behalf on Mr.Storkamp I give you Snoop Kirby Kirb.
*LOL* Man it cracks me up every time I lay eyes on it. God Bless you Snoop Kirby Kirb for bringing a magical ray of sunshine into my day. Anyway, on to the next finding.....TALLY HO! My best bud Mal informed me the other day that she had picked up two new games, one of those being Xenosaga in which I would actually consider to be one of my favs for the PS2 and the other game being The Bouncer. I've seen this particular game around before and have been curios to try it out but have never gotten around to it. So in my state of peeked curiosity I moseyed on over to Youtube to seem if I could find some gameplay footage and was successful in doing so. I found a walkthrough of the game by this fellow / vash12349,who I must say did a little above a subpar job (the dude sounded like he was high off his ass the majority of the time but I guess it might of seemed like that due to so-so sound quality in places.) After watching the first three parts it doesn't seem to shabby of a game considering it's 8 / 9 years old. The game play pretty much seems like a SquareEnix version of Final Fight or Streets of Rage. Don't get me wrong I love those kind of beat em' up,ragdoll physics submerged games. However what kinda put a dint in things was the cheesy dialog and character designs. Scion (who from what I watched from the game play am assuming is the main character) looks like what you would get if Sora (Kingdom Hearts) and Titus (FFX) had a love child, Volt looks like a rip off of Billy Idol (with the exception of his little horns), Kou just looks like some leather clad dude who got in a brawl with a tatoo artist (despite his appearance he has a kick ass banana phone *lmao*), Dominique looks sorta looks like a bite size version of Aerith (FFVII,Advent Children,Kingdom Hearts) with an even more annoying voice,
and last but not least we have the Mikado which is a group of penis-shaped,golden armor clad, thong wearing, renegade group of psychopath ninjas that have hightech red goggles who just LOOOooove to kill things / people. I'm sure there's pleanty more characters to pick on but I'll leave that up to your own imaginations. Anyway, despite those quirks of the game I think it would still be worth a try............and you know what I think I shall! Hell you can pick up a copy off of Amazon.com for $5 (if that),so WHAT THE HEY.Okay fun time is over and now back to reality (j/k). Anywho, I have been quite busy in this little world of mine (a.k.a my home in Dallas) these past couple of weeks since I returned from my extended stay in Oklahoma. The day I got back from OK was quite drama filled. After Andrew (my husband) and I got back home from running some errands and going out to dinner that night things weren't quite right around our apartment. It's hard for me to explain or describe the notion, but you could definitely tell something awful occurred,I guess you could say it was kind of an eerie feeling. When we pulled up to the complex there were some busted lights in one of the entryways and there were some people looking around strangely on one of the upper balconies / walkway on another building facing ours. At first we didn't really give it too much thought and went inside our apartment. Probably between 30-45 minutes later (around 11:30pm or so) I went to go get something out of my car and notice our neighbors gathered around on the walkway (we live on the 3rd floor) looking down at something below. I looked down and there were probably 7 / 8 squad cars lined up in the street along with a few other vehicles (which I'm assuming were either news crews or investigators.) I asked around to see what was up and no one really knew for sure. When I walked out to my car I also noticed that there were some officers walking around with search dogs and a helicopter flying overhead,it all was starting to creep me out so I went back inside the apartment and watched for awhile and eventually fell asleep. The next day when I awakened there were a few police cars parked outside along with a couple of news crews interviewing people. It was driving me nuts that I didn't know what was going on so I went online to check out the latest local news. I went to the Dallas news website and discovered that what had happened was that there was a baby abducted from one of the apartments across from us. You can read the full story here.Supposedly there was a young couple in the process of moving out and at the time of the indecent it was just the mother and the baby in the apartment and the father was at their new home. The mother was in the restroom and the baby (I'm assuming) was out in the front room when some Hispanic guy busted into the apartment, attempted to assault / rape the mother, the mother fought off the intruder, the guy then took off with her baby and proceeded to escape by jumping off of the balcony, and the rest is history.
It's scary and tragic to say the least. From what I've read about the incident (and I hate to make assumptions on this sort of thing) it almost sounds as if there might of been some foul play on the parents part. I say this of course due to the fact that there's a significant amount of discrepancies between the different stories that the parents have given to the police and investigators,
what kind of assaulter would make off with a baby when trying to make a get-a-way, and on top of that the baby was born prematurely and therefore has physical limitations.
I hope I'm wrong on that and that the baby will be found and returned unharmed.
So a couple days after all of that went down (Friday/ the 12th) I had to go back up to M.E.P.S (military entrance processing station) again -___-.Thank you Lord I never have to step foot in that place again.......well with the exception of when I do my finial swear in before heading off to basic and when I have to go take a test for one of the jobs I signed up for). Anywho, needless to say it was a long and yet exciting day. Got there at 5 A.M, reported the the Air Force liaisons office, waited around for who knows how long, got a health inspect done (basically them checking your weight and making sure you're doing fine health wise), waited around some more,
and then I finally got to meet up with the job counselor YAY! *lol* And of course none of the jobs I was really hoping to get were available (except Aerospace Physiology), but the selection still wasn't too bad I guess (hey atleast I get to change jobs after 3 years if I want *lol*). From the options that were available these are those jobs I choose along with Aerospace Physiology:
And if for some reason there isn't any job openings in any of those areas I'll be guaranteed a job in the general aptitude area (which ranges from everything from a pest controller to a medical apprentice *lol*).
After I got done with the job counselor guess what I got to do?.......MORE WAITING ><. Finally around 1 PM or so I had to go get my finger prints taken and my paperwork processed by some guy named Keith who looked and acted like the dude off of Office Space that obsesses over his red stapler.
(
OH YA! MILTON!)
Following that I had the honor of participating in the swear in ceremony (yes they have two ceremonies for some reason.....*shrugs* go figure), in which as corny as it may sound was one of the proudest moments of my life.
I can't tell you guys how thankful I am that God has provided the opportunity for me to serve my country, carry on the Air Force heritage / tradition in my family, to go back to school and finish out my degree, a stable job and income to help support my family, etc. It's a huge blessing in and of itself and I firmly believe it'll be a great and one of a kind life changing expierence. Anywho, pretty much after that was all over with I had to go take a physical for the Aerospace job and then I got to go home YAY FINALLY!While I was at M.E.P.S I found out that I'm in the D.E.P (delayed entry program)
,basically meaning that I won't be going to basic til later this year more than likely due to the fact that all the spots for basic are filled up. For those of us who are in this program we get to meet up with fellow recruits twice a month and work on drills, marching exercises, go running, play sports, etc. This past Wednesday I went to my first D.E.P meeting and it was pretty cool. We mostly worked on different marching exercises and played touch football (which I royally suck at *lol*). I'm hoping to make some new friends through it and meet people who will be leaving to basic when I do and that will hopefully be in the same flight (Air Force's version / term of a squadron or platoon) as me.Other than that not a whole lot going on. Since I'll be going to basic later than planed it's back to job hunting I go *bleck*. I think I've made a long enough post, so I'm going to stop for now and go for a run. That's all for now folks! Stay tuned to the same Rachael on the some Rachael channel!
*UPDATE*
It's been a while since Dallas News has posted any new news in regards to the case of the missing baby,it's been a few days since I last checked and thought I would do that now while I remember to do so. Unfortunately (and very much to my disappointment) it appears as if my assumption / prediction was right about the involvement of the parents. For a lack of a better work it's flat out appalling that people would commit such a heinous act towards an innocent child and to think that they're about to bring another one into this world is just absolutely absurd. I hope they both get what they deserve for what they've done. Here's the latest report.
